Repent: The annoying word

In this last days one annoying word I found out people hates to hear both in the Church, and outside the Church is ‘Repent’. The message of repentance is relegated to the background even from the pulpit most preachers ignores it, maybe because it doesn’t appeal to most. Most people don’t want to be reminded about their weakness or sins rather they want to hear sugarcoated messages that tingers their ears.

John the baptist whom was referred by our Lord as the greatest Prophet that ever liveth up to that time, started his ministry by calling the people to repentance and to escape the judgement of God Matt.3:2.

Even our Lord Jesus preached repentance during His earthly ministry. He called the people to repent and forsake their sins Matt.4:17, 9:13.

The day the Church was born in the book of Acts, you will noticed that the first message that Peter preached was on repentance, when the people heard it, they cried out and said, what shall we do to be save Acts 2:37-38.

Let us return repentance message to the table of preaching and imitate our Lord Jesus by preaching balance messages which includes repentance. If we want to see revival, then we must repent. Without true repentance, no true revival. ‘If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land’ 2Ch 7:14.

I’ll leave you with this thought of wisdom “Some people do not like to hear much of repentance; but I think it is so necessary that if I should die in the pulpit, I would desire to die preaching repentance, and if out of the pulpit I would desire to die practicing it” – Matthew Henry
